What is NAFEN™?

NAFEN™ is the brand name of ANF Technology’s unique Aluminum Oxide nano fibers—an incredible new nanofiber material that offers the key to unlocking innovation across a number of major industry sectors. NAFEN™ products are available in three forms: masterbatch dispersions, fibers and powders, which can be used as a performance enhancer for other materials in order to boost critical mechanical properties in the end product. These include significant increases in tensile strength, flexural strength, impact toughness, hardness, corrosion resistance, chemical resistance and elongation at break; by adding as little as 0.1% of NAFEN™.

How is it made?

NAFEN™ is synthesized from liquid phase aluminum, which ensures a high production rate. Nafen Enhancer masterbatch dispersions are produced using state-of-the-art technology and a proprietary production process developed by ANF Technology.  ANF Technology Ltd is now preparing for the construction of a serial production line with a capacity of 400 tonnes per annum.

What are my options for masterbatch materials?

NAFEN™ Enhancer masterbatches are produced in base material viscous resins.  Currently, dispersions are available in DGEBA Epoxy resin and HDDA UV cured resin.  Other resin dispesions are under development and will be available in the near future (e.g. Cyanate Esters, Polyester).  ANF Technology is also in development of the processes for producing masterbatch dispersions in major solvents to address other industry applications.

What is its sales price?

Several factors determine the pricing of NAFEN™ products for any given application. Therefore, tailored pricing offers are provided for each client based on dispersion material, loading percentage, fiber type and length, packaging requirements, volume, etc. For powders, price is determined by particle size and volume requirements of the customer.  Contact us at through our “Contact Us” page to get a direct quotation.

Who owns/makes NAFEN™?

NAFEN™ is made by ANF Technology Ltd, a UK based company with production facilities in Estonia.

What are the problems/opportunities for which NAFEN™ provides solutions?

Industry has been experimenting with a number of new products in recent years, searching for the next evolutionary step in materials development and solutions. For example CNTs (Carbon Nanotubes) have failed to kick-start a revolution in industrial materials technology due to their high cost and difficult production processes. Many performance enhancers fail to perform because of poor dispersability and agglomeration issues.  NAFEN is easily dispersable and provides the true nano effect of improved performance.

NAFEN™ is a product with a wide range of end use industrial applications. We are currently targeting our marketing of NAFEN™ at a number of key priority polymer applications. These include: Paints and Coatings, Epoxies and Adhesives, Fiber Reinforced Composites and Engineered Plastics.  These product categories touch on a multitude of industries, including Aerospace, Automotive, Electronics, Wind Energy, Solar Energy, Construction, Marine, Elite Sports, Racing and so on.

Are there priority scientific and research requirements, e.g. to collaborate with certain institutions?

ANF Technology Ltd has key partnerships with the materials science research departments at many leading North American and European Universities and Institutes, including the University of South Carolina, Fraunhofer Institute (PYCO), University of Texas and many others. We strive to be at the forefront of cutting-edge scientific discovery and these relationships are essential to that process. What delivery channels are / will be used?

ANF Technology Ltd currently distributes NAFEN™ directly although discussion is under way with major distributors in the USA and Asian markets.

Who are your main competitors?

NAFEN™ does not have direct competition since NAFEN™ is a completely new material with the potential to provide significant performance and innovation benefits in a wide range of sectors.  Generally, NAFEN can work to compliment existing additives being used in the target industries, but in many cases NAFEN can replace those materials and provide the same, if not better results without any tradeoffs.

Are NAFEN Dynamic Enhancers safe to use?  I’m worried about the health and safety issues of nano particles.

NAFEN Dynamic Enhancers are predispersed mixtures of our unique alumina nano fibers in base material liquids or resins.  When embedded in a polymer matrix, nano particles are no longer ’nano’. They are captured in the polymer, unable to be released.  Even under abrasive wear, a nano enhanced polymer coating will not expose you to nano particles.  We provide a full MSDS for all of our NAFEN products so that any specific safety and handling requirements are observed for those base material resins and solvents.
